1170Underdog is a story about a boy who seemed unlikely to survive,
much less one day to be known to the world as Genghis Khan.

 

Jesse L. Kearney, Jr. will play the Talking Tree.

Fady Kerko (“Begter”), George Carroll (“Jamuka”), Doua Moua (“Torghill” a/k/a “Ong Khan”), Marcus Stewart (“Temujin”), and Vincent Revo Dungca (“Envoy”) will play historical figures.

Ray Reynolds and Paul Longshore, both 12-year-old actors, will be part of the cast.
Paul Longshore will play Young Temujin. Ray Reynolds will play Young Jamuka.

Fady Kerko also will play Kaz.

GEORGE CARROLL (Jamuka) has worked extensively off and off-off-Broadway with the 13th Street Theatre and the Aquila Theatre Company
and has just completed several indie films to be released this fall . He would like to thank his acting coach Susanna Dalton.

VINCENT REVO DUNGA (“Envoy”) Revo Dungca came to New York to continue his studies after studying acting in Toronto. He grew up traveling from country to country being known as the "new kid on the block." Revo's a great believer in divine intervention and believes there are only one way to life: Live as if everything's a miracle. Revo is grateful to be part of this production and looks forward to continue working in New York. Thank you Mary, Krista and Scott

JESSE L. KEARNEY, JR.

JESSE L. KEARNEY, JR. (“Tree”) recently performed as Wining Boy in The Piano Lesson for Crystal Image Theater, and as Errol Philander in Statements After An Arrest with Prospect Theater Company's Dark Nights Series. Other NY credits include The Book of the Dun Cow, Old Words, New Words (Midtown International Theater Festival) and Three Sisters. He's also been featured in several regional plays and short films. He is the author of The Dark Night Plays (Nightmares and Fantasies), Hollywood Revue and Lights on Broadway. He's been a selected participant of the ASCAP Musical Theater Workshop and Lincoln Center Theater's Director's Lab. He was awarded a Jonathan Larson Musical Theater Fellowship by the Dramatist Guild. He received his BA from Dartmouth College and his MFA in Musical Theater Writing from NYU.

FADY KERKO

FADY KERKO (“Kaz”, “Begter”) was born in Cairo, Egypt. He moved to Paris, France when he was one and lived there for four years. In the summer of 1997, Fady moved to Venice, Florida where he graduated from high school. In the Fall of 2000, Fady began college in Tampa, Florida. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication Production and Direction. Fady's first ever role was in a children's play titled "The Heart of Ice" playing Maxwell the half human half dog. Throughout high school Fady Portrayed a variety of roles in different plays such as "The diary of Anne Frank", "The Foreigner", and a one act titled "Just desserts". After three years of college and being away from the theater, Fady decided to audition for a play in a nearby community college. In 2003, he was cast as Vinni Bavasi in Neil Simone's "Proposals". Fady is currently working on different Independent Features in New York and outside. Fady is fluent in Arabic and loves playing and watching soccer in his free time. Fady would like to thank his entire family and all his friends for their support, especially his mother Janet, his little brother Shady, and most of all his father George.

PAUL LONGSHORE

PAUL LONGSHORE (“Young Temujin”) has performed in Oklahoma at the Patricia Corbett Theater in Cincinnati Ohio as The Peddler, at the Stained Glass Theater in Merry Blah Blah as well as in South Pacific. In addition to his theater credits, he was a lead role in The Emperor of Ice Cream, a festival film, HGTV’s promotion of “Restore America”, a National NBA Playoff Pre-Game promotion, multiple print, advertising, industrials and various commercials. The Shirley Grant Management Company (NYC) represents him. When he is not acting, singing or dancing Paul enjoys football, wrestling, showing horses, playing with friends and hanging out at his grandparent’s farm. Paul would like to thank GOD for his amazing opportunities, his family for loving him and everyone associated with 1170 Underdog.

KRISTA ASTARITA (Assistant Director) received her M.A. in Educational Theatre in May from NYU and will be teaching high school drama this September at the Academy for Young Writers in Williamsberg, Brooklyn. She is a NYC native actor, artist and teacher. Favorite roles include Exton, Richard II (NYU), Witch, Movin Macbeth (HERE), Mrs. Webb, Our Town Remains (Columbia University), The Water of Life (The Shoestring Players), and Luella, The Diviners (Middlesex County College). Krista is very grateful to Mary once again for giving her an opportunity to work on a new piece, the creative and inspiring actors who helped breathe life into the play and to her partner Scooter for all his tough love and support.

 

LUCY BERMINGHAM (Coach/consultant for the child actors) is a professional dancer, choreographer and actor. She received her BA in Dance from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts and her MA in Dance Studies from The Laban Centre, City University in London, UK. As a history buff with special enthusiasm for Genghis Khan , she is thrilled to be a part of this production.

JOHN DICKIE IV (Graphic Artist) John owns Threshold Design. Opened in 1999, Threshold Design provides a full range of graphic design services from corporate identity and stationery to brochures, annual reports, print advertising, newsletters, packaging, websites and much more. With offices located in Baltimore City, Maryland and St. Augustine, Florida, they are centrally located to the metropolitan Baltimore-Washington and Jacksonville areas. However, with the advances in internet technology, they have worked with clients all over the United States as well as globally.

 

CARLA GANT (Costume Designer) is the resident designer for the Xoregos Performing Company last productions ARTS NOUVEAUX, BASKING, LOVE, ISADORA. She is the designer in residence for the Untitled Theater Company #61. Credits include the Havel festival, THE MEMO, and AUDIENCE. MARY E. GOULET (Writer) adapted 1170Underdog from her own shorter, 3-actor play 1190Underdog (semifinalist, Winter 2007, Strawberry One-Act Festival, NYC). Previously she wrote Worlds Away Musical which in 2003 the Washington Post (Michael Toscano) called “ethereal operatic myth” when it had a concert-style staged reading in Alexandria, Virginia. In 2004, Worlds Away Musical was performed in NYC at Producers Club Theatre II. In 2005, her play Old Words, New Words: Snapshots of the Year 2030 was in the Midtown International Theatre Festival in NYC; Backstage (Michael Lazan) recognized the play as “a futuristic, politically aware take on law school” that “impresses with an intriguing, ambitious first scene” and “presents a plausible and witty scenario”. Mary has a B.A. in Natural Sciences from the Johns Hopkins University, and a J.D. from University of Maryland School of Law. JUDD HOLLANDER (Publicist) with Bunch of People (Judd Hollander & Cynthia Leathers, Publicists) – Judd has been a theatre publicist for over 10 years. RAY REYNOLDS (“Young Jamuka”) is a very dedicated student. While homework comes first, he manages to squeeze in wrestling, martial arts, swim team, and piano practices. In the winter, his weekends are filled with Freestyle Skiing Competitions, while in the summer he likes going to the beach with family and friends.

MARCUS STEWART (“Temujin”) is a recent alum of the University of the Arts acting program. His in-school credits include, Love's Labours Lost, Electra, 1984, The Gardener's Dog, & The Beaux Stratagem. His post-school credits include new plays, Breathing Ash and Cakewalk by Tom Minter, Daily We Commute Our Sentence by Jeremy Blyth, and an internet pilot, Arc.
