HOW TO WRITE AND PERFORM YOUR OWN ONE ACTOR SHOW
Turn the story only you can tell into a powerful live theatrical experience.
Do you have a story inside you that you want to bring to the stage?
A one actor show can be one of the most immediate, personal, exciting, and powerful forms of theatre because there is nothing standing between you, your story, and your audience.
But creating one requires more than simply standing on stage and telling a story.
You have to shape it into theatre.
In this private 75 minute Zoom session, I will help you begin transforming your story, experiences, and ideas into a compelling one actor show and help you develop the confidence to perform it.
Drawing on more than 35 years of producing, directing, writing, acting, and coaching theatre artists, as well as my own experience writing and performing four one actor shows, I know firsthand what it takes to stand alone on stage and connect with an audience.
My autobiographical solo show, The People in My Hips, my story about how I got PTSD from doing yoga, received incredible reviews. My One Man, One Dog show, Dad and the Dog, was also a wonderful critical success and, most importantly, enormous fun to perform.
I will share with you what I have learned both creating these shows and actually performing them in front of audiences.
During our private session, you will learn:
• How to find the story that only you can tell
• How to turn personal experiences into compelling theatre
• How to find the central idea or emotional journey of your show
• How to create a strong theatrical structure
• How to build a compelling beginning, middle, and ending
• How to create theatrical variety so you can hold an audience's attention
• How to create powerful emotional moments
• How to rehearse your one actor show effectively
• How to overcome stage fright
• How to move beyond self consciousness on stage
• How to become more present as a performer
• How to connect deeply and truthfully with your material
• How to create an emotional connection so your audience does not simply hear your story, they feel it
One of the biggest challenges of performing a one actor show is not simply memorizing your lines. It is having the confidence to stand alone on stage, be completely present, and share something meaningful with an audience.
I will give you practical tools to help you move through stage fright and self consciousness, connect more deeply to your material, and experience the joy and excitement of performing your own work.
This session will be personalized around your story, your experience, and where you are in the creative process.
You will leave with practical tools, greater confidence, and a clear action plan for creating and performing a one actor show that only you can bring into the world.
