THE COMPLETE PLAYWRITING INTENSIVE

Finally finish the play you have always wanted to write!

You have an idea.

Maybe you have characters you cannot stop thinking about.

Maybe you have a few scenes.

Maybe you have started your play several times, but somehow you never seem to get to the finish line.

The problem may not be your idea.

The problem may simply be that you do not have a clear roadmap for creating your play.

That is exactly what The Complete Playwriting Intensive is designed to give you.

Using my production based playwriting approach and decades of experience directing, producing, developing, and working with playwrights, I will teach you the Principles of Playwriting, the building blocks with make a great play.

You will explore dramatic action, events, character, conflict, escalation, structure, and how to keep the audience focused on what is happening on stage.

And I will teach you how to create an Emotional Event Map, one of the most important tools I have developed for creating the live emotional experience I call a play.

Your Emotional Event Map becomes the blueprint for your play.

Instead of staring at a blank page wondering what happens next, you will have a clear emotional and dramatic map to follow when writing.

This will help you write your play better and faster than than ever before.

Here is how this intensive works:

SESSION ONE: THE PLAY BLUEPRINT

Before we meet, you will send me your story idea and whatever pages you have already written.

During our first 90 minute Zoom session, we will explore the foundation of your play.

We will look at your “Problem that needs to be solved,” your characters, the action and events in your play, escalation escalation, the specificity of your characteers, and where your play ultimately needs to go.

I will also teach you the principles behind creating your Emotional Event Map.

You will not be expected to complete the entire map during our first session.

Instead, you will leave understanding how to create it and how to use it as the blueprint for writing your play.

Then you begin creating your Emotional Event Map and writing your play.

During this part of the process, you will also have email support from me so you can touch base when questions or challenges arise.

SESSION TWO: THE PLAY CHECKPOINT

Once you have made significant progress on your play, we meet again for a private Zoom session.

We look at what you have created.

We examine your Emotional Event Map and your draft.

We explore what is working and what needs additional attention.

We strengthen the action, events, characters, structure, and emotional “ride” of the play.

And then you go back and finish your play.

SESSION THREE: FINISHING YOUR FIRST DRAFT

You did it.

You have a completed first draft.

Now we look at the play as a whole. We identify what is working, where the play works best, and what need additional development.

You leave with a completed play and a clear understanding of what comes next.

And when you are ready, the next stage of The Play Creation System is waiting for you.
